Healing from Emotional Abuse: Self-Care and Advocacy group counselling session provided a powerful and transformative space for Black women. We created an environment where participants could collectively heal, build resilience, and advocate for themselves.

By centring on the intersectional identities of Black women, we acknowledged the complex intersect of race, gender, sexuality, class, ability, and other factors that shape their experiences.

Our group counselling session provided a safe and supportive space for women to share their stories, validate their experiences, and connect with others who understood their challenges.

Led by Diahanna Clarke, Integrative Counsellor/ Psychotherapist from Dedicated to Change Project, the session focused on:

  • Raising awareness: Understanding the prevalence and impact of emotional abuse.

  • Building resilience: Developing coping mechanisms and self-care strategies tailored to the specific needs of Black women.

  • Fostering community: Creating a support network among participants to build a sense of belonging and shared empowerment.

  • Empowering advocacy: Providing information and resources to help women navigate systems and advocate for themselves.

Through group discussions, shared experiences, and expert guidance, participants gained valuable insights, tools, and support to navigate their healing journeys.

This workshop was part of the Dear Black Women and Girls 2023 Festival, a broader initiative to empower and uplift Black girls and women.
