Find Your Flow: An African Yoga Journey to Inner Harmony session was a profoundly transformative experience curated specifically for Black women. Guided by the esteemed Yoga and Sound Energy Practitioner, Anne Shalo, this session offered a culturally-focused space to deepen the connection between mind, body, and African ancestry.

Under Anne Shalo’s expert guidance, participants embarked on a journey of self-discovery. The session began with grounding exercises, centering the mind and preparing the body for the practice ahead.

Through a series of gentle poses and mindful breathing, attendees explored the interplay between breath, movement, and ancestral wisdom.

Our Objectives

The main goals of this African yoga session included:

  • Mind-Body-Ancestry Connection: Encouraging Black women to explore the untapped potential of their bodies, fostering a dialogue between their physical selves, mental states, and rich African heritage.

  • Being Presence: Empowering participants to fully inhabit the present moment, attuning to their bodies’ needs through mindful breath and movement.

  • Harmonising Body and Mind: Guiding attendees through a gentle yet invigorating yoga practice that balances strength and softness, leaving them refreshed and rejuvenated.

  • Celebrating African Heritage: Integrating elements of African culture and traditions into the yoga practice, creating an immersive experience that honoured the beauty and diversity of African heritage.

  • Building Community: Providing a supportive space for connection, allowing attendees to bond with themselves, each other, and their African roots.

This workshop was part of the Dear Black Women and Girls 2023 Festival, a broader initiative to empower and uplift Black girls and women.
